A Song of Ice & Fire: Sunspear Dervishes
House Martell’s deadly Sunspear Dervishes are the type of rapid response unit that enemy archers and artillery rightly fear. Their light armor allows for fast reactions against emerging threats and once engaged, their unique spear-and-net fighting style hampers enemies in melee, and allows them to engage and hold against more heavily armored units. That said, Sunspear Dervishes are best employed against enemies already bogged down by other friendly units. In a Martell force, they serve as line units positioned on flanks, the better to split off and deal with situations as they appear.
House Martell, ruling from the depths of desert-strewn Dorne, have a doctrine of fast-attack, hit-and-fade tactics for their army. This is epitomized in the Sunspear Dervishes. Armed with brutal blades and eschewing heavy armor in favor of high mobility, they strike from seemingly nowhere and fade away afterward.
The Sunspear Dervishes unit box for the A Song of Ice and Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game gives House Martell players a fast attack unit for their armies. The Dervishes are almost impossible to pin down, able to break away from enemies with ease whenever needed, letting them dictate the flow of battle.
